The Constitution of The Wincheap Society

1. The Society shall be known as The Wincheap Society (hereafter 'the Society').

2. The area covered by the Society is the main Wincheap Road and its environs.

3. The objective of the Society shall be to preserve and enhance the distinctive character and environmental quality of the Wincheap area by:

a. monitoring planning applications and, through discussion in Committee meetings and consultation with the membership, taking appropriate action in response to any application which will have an impact on the area;

b. representing the interests both of local residents and of local small businesses;

c. campaigning for the alleviation of traffic and air quality problems in the area;

d. liaising with other local groups which share the Society's goals.

4. Membership is open to residents of the Wincheap area and other interested persons.

5. The membership subscription shall be £5.00 per year (full rate) and £3.50 per year (concessions). The  membership year runs from 1st June to 31st May.

6. An Annual General Meeting shall be held each June/July, at which the following office holders shall be elected:

a. Chair

b. Vice-Chair

c. Treasurer

d. Minute and/or Membership Secretary

e. Up to eight committee members

7. A quorum shall be four members, and the Chair (or, if absent, the Vice-Chair) shall have the casting vote in the event of a deadlock on any decision. 

8. The Committee shall have the power to co-opt members. 

9. The Committee shall act in the interests of the Society as necessary, and shall be instructed on general policy by the membership. 

10. Voting at meetings is restricted to the membership. 

11. The Constitution can be amended by the decision of a majority of the members at the Annual General Meeting or at an Extraordinary General Meeting. 

12. An Extraordinary General Meeting may be called by the Committee or by 25% of the membership.
